Location

The project is located in the Dehradun city of District Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The specific stretch for widening is from Garhi Cantt chowk to Army Podhshala via Daakra.

Background and Problem Statement

The existing road from Garhi Cantt to Ballupur Chowk having length 2.70 Km is 4 lane & connect NH-72(07) at Ballupur Chowk. Due to large influx of pilgrims,tourists and devotees travelling towards Mussoorie/Yamunotri,traffic increases significantly,resulting in frequent and prolonged traffic jams in specific stretch being intermediate/single lane i.e Garhi Cantt chowk to Army Podhshala., The surface condition is very poor, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters and hindering smooth vehicular movement

Project Concept and Need

The first Km of this stretch is in intermediate lane passes through the city which is heavily congested with traffic and rest 0.50 Km is in single lane. Further the road ahead from Army Podhshala is constructed as 2 lane carriageway falling under Deffence.This stretch is constantly jammed causing inconvenient to the local public, pilgrims,tourists etc Widening of the road will reduce the traffic pressure which will ensure safe, smooth and uninterrupted traffic.

Key Components and Features

The project involves the comprehensive widening and strengthening of the road surface using modern bituminous technologies.

Key technical components include-

  • Pavement Strengthening : Application of Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC) to provide a durable and smooth riding surface.
  • Base Repair : Laying of Wet mix Macadam (WMM) where necessary to stabilize the base.
  • Drainage and Protection: Construction of surface drains and cross-drainage works to prevent waterlogging and road damage.
  • Road Safety Infrastructure : Installation of necessary road furniture, signage, and safety features to ensure commuter safety.
  • Shoulder Development : Construction of paved shoulders with Interlocking Concrete Blocks for added safety and road width utilization.

The project feasibility survey work has been completed.

  • Estimated Cost: Approximately. ₹ 1291.00 Lakhs.
  • Land Status: The land is under the possession of Irregation Department & Deffence.

Implementation Plan / Next Steps

The implementation is planned following the acquisition of CRIF sanctions. Next steps involve:

  • Obtaining land transfer from Deffence .
  • Obtaining utility shifting estimate.
  • Obtaining necessary administrative and financial sanctions.

Conclusion

In order to regulate and decongest traffic for tourists,pilgrims & commuters proceeding towards Mussoorie/Yamunotri,the Dehradun Mussoorie motor road (SH-1) may be supplemented by using this specific stretch from Ballupur - Garhi Cantt - Army Podhshala -Supply Chowk-Lambhidhar-Kimadi-Mussoorie . This project will not only restore a critical transport lifeline but also unlock the economic potential of the region through enhanced tourism and local trade and also will solve the problem of traffic james and will the reduce the possibility of accidents.
