Improvement and strengthening of Khairna-Ranikhet-Mohan Motor Road (State Highway No. 14) from Km 01 to Km 26 using DBM and BC.

Location

The project is located in the Tarikhet Development Block of District Almora, Uttarakhand. It falls under the Ranikhet Legislative Assembly constituency and the Almora -Pithoragarh Lok Sabha constituency. The specific stretch covers kilometers 01 to 26 of State Highway 14.

Background and Problem Statement

SH-14 is an important state Highway. SH-14 connects the town of Ranikhet, which is known for being a tourist destination as well as the Kumaon Regiment Headquarters of the Indian Army, from Km 32 (khairna) of Jyolikot- Almora - Karnaprayag National Highway No. 109. This stretch of state highway meet at Ghingrikhal ( km 34 of SH 14) at km 108 of National Highway No. 109, from here this motorway connects Almora district headquarters and Dwarahat to Ranikhet. In case of any obstruction of the national highway due to any reason, it becomes an alternative route for vehicles going from Haldwani to Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts.

While the section from Km 01 to Km 26 has already been strengthened with Bituminous Macadam (BM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC), the stretch from Km 01 to Km 26 has deteriorated significantly. The surface condition is poor, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters and hindering smooth vehicular movement. The lack of a robust surface in this section disrupts the continuity of this important inter-regional corridor.

Project Concept and Need

The project is conceived to upgrade and strengthen the existing 26-kilometer stretch of the State highway to ensure driveability and safety. The primary objective is to facilitate seamless connectivity between the Jyolikot- Almora - Karnaprayag National Highway No. 109 to Almora District Headqurter via Ranikhet to support the growing tourism sector in the area.
