Construction of a Motor Road from Km 13.00 of the Naugaon-Paunti-Rajgarhi (Main District Road) to Tatau Degree College.
Location
The project is located in the Naugaon development block of the Yamunotri constituency in District Uttarkashi. It involves constructing a new road branching off from the Naugaon-Paunti-Rajgarhi Main District Road.
Background and Problem Statement
Students from several villages, including Paunti, Sunaldi, Dandagaon, and Gona, face extreme hardship in reaching the Tatau Degree College, especially during the rainy season. There is currently no direct or reliable motorable route. The lack of an alternative road forces students to traverse difficult terrain, impacting their ability to access higher education. Additionally, the nearby town of Barkot faces severe traffic congestion during the pilgrimage season, and a new alternative route would help mitigate this issue.
Project Concept and Need
The project has been conceived with a dual objective: first, to provide dedicated, safe, and reliable road access for students to the Tatau Degree College; and second, to create a new alternative route that can help decongest Barkot during the busy tourist and pilgrimage seasons.
Key Components and Features
The main component is the construction of a new motor road, including a proposed 72-meter span bridge. The defining feature of this project is its direct contribution to the education sector by removing a significant physical barrier for students seeking higher education. It also serves a strategic purpose in regional traffic management.
Beneficiaries and Coverage
The primary beneficiaries are the students of Tatau Degree College from the villages of Paunti, Sunaldi, Dandagaon, Gona, and surrounding areas. The project will also benefit travelers and pilgrims by providing an alternative route to bypass traffic jams in Barkot.
Expected Benefits and Outcomes
The construction of this road will provide immense relief to students, ensuring they can travel to college safely and conveniently throughout the year. It will remove a major obstacle to higher education for the youth of these rural villages. The road will also function as a bypass, alleviating traffic pressure in Barkot during peak seasons, leading to smoother traffic flow for the Char Dham Yatra.
Current Status of the Project
The project is in its initial stages. The cost estimation for the first phase of the project is currently being prepared.
Implementation Plan / Next Steps
The immediate next step is to complete the preparation of the project estimate. Following this, the proposal will be submitted to the government for administrative and financial approval.
Conclusion
This project is of significant social and strategic importance. It directly supports the educational aspirations of rural students while simultaneously addressing the persistent problem of traffic congestion in a key pilgrimage town. Its implementation will yield long-term benefits for both the local community and the broader region.
